Virtus Heritage is a leading Australian archaeology and cultural heritage consultancy providing expert advice and guidance to government agencies, private sector organisations and community groups. We are steadfastly committed to the sustainable management and protection of cultural heritage sites in Australia and abroad.
Since our Director, Dr Mary-Jean Sutton gave rise to Virtus Heritage back in 2010, our team has grown substantially, now offering an extensive profile of education, specialist expertise and experience in archaeology, history and heritage management, stone artefact analysis, ground penetrating radar (GPR survey), geomorphology, geophysics, anthropology and geographic information systems (GIS). This includes involvement in diverse and complex archaeological projects locally and across the globe.
Our main office is based in Kingscliff, NSW and a second office in Sydney, with team members and technical partners in Sydney, Newcastle, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Wollongong, Blue Mountains, New Zealand and the USA.
We deeply respect the people and places we interact with and believe heritage is integral to community well-being and identity. Our team prioritises fostering connection and effective relationships on all our projects. We are proud of the long-standing and respectful relationships we have nurtured with key Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community partners.
Archaeology and cultural heritage can uncover valued stories, places, and artefacts. Heritage is an integral part of identity and well-being and presents economic opportunities and community benefits for education and sustainability. We take great care to facilitate a tailored approach to projects that provide ethical and practical solutions that balance statutory reporting and legislative requirements, client needs, and community expectations. Our teams are motivated to tap into the inherent value within our clients’ projects.
